Urban Zemmer (La Sportiva) i Laura Orgué (Salomon) revaliden els títols mundials de les Vertical Series, al véncer la final disputada divendres nit a Limone (Itàlia). Llig la notícia completa en anglès:
Urban and Laura reconfirm their prowess and world champion status at the Vertical Series finals in Limone on Italy’s spectacular Lake Garda Friday.
La Sportiva ate up the field with four athletes in the top ten men’s field and a 9th place with Nadia Scola in the women’s. Both the men’s and women’s race records were broken.
The Vertical Series men’s podium is all Italian and all “La Sportiva” with winner Urban Zemmer, Marco Facchinelli and Marco Moletto in the top three positions.
Salomon’s Laura Orgue, 2012 Vertical Champion, by winning the race, maintains her position as Vertical Series Champion 2013. Italy’s Antonella Confortola (GS Forestale) was a clear favourtite for the race and didn’t disappoint, finishing second, followed by Samantha Galassi also from Italy.
With Laura Orgue leading the women’s ranking, Vanesa Ortega ((Boquique Trail) ranks second and Britain’s Tessa Hill (Arc’teryx), after just one year of skyrunning, sits on the third rung of the final ranking.
The short steep Vertical Grèste de la Mughéra started lakeside at dusk with a firework display illuminating the summit 1,100 metres above. The 192 runners ran through the small town and up a narrow trail for 4.05 km. Mostly very rocky limestone, the organsiers advised: “no overtaking on the exposed stretches”, which everyone was happy to comply with. Fixed ropes in crucial points assisted the runners.
Recently crowned Ultra champion Kilian Jornet, who came fourth, commented, “Beautiful course. Super good training for Sunday!”
Anticipation mounts for Sunday’s Sky Series final with a great international field competing in the Limone Extreme SkyRace® . The course is short, 23.5 km, (similar in distance to the Dolomites SkyRace® but with less vertical ascent and descent). The loop, with 2,002m vertical climb, starts and finishes on the shores of Garda Lake, ensuring a spectacular panorama. Make no mistake, the course is technical, over mostly very rocky limestone, with some very steep and exposed stretches on both the ascent AND descent. Last year’s record time was set by Marco De Gasperi in 2h13’34 and the women’s record by Debora Cardone was 3h02’08”, no doubt times that will fall given the depth of field competing in the final here.
