Madalina Florea fights to the bitter end

She masterfully engineered her way to victory! Madalina Florea (CSM Sighisoara, Romania) made her attack right from the climb on the second loop to open a gap of almost 1’30” on her rivals. The gap proved enough despite Judith Wyder’s storming resurgence in the last part of the race. “I can’t believe it,” declared Madalina Florea at the finish line. “I keep thinking it’s a dream and that I’m going to wake up! I felt good at the start staying behind the girls but then I felt out of pace, so I took the lead on the second loop and put the gas on. I felt really great today. I stayed focused right to the end and I it was enough despite Judith’s comeback. I’m really happy! Happy is the word that describes how I feel today!” Second across the finish line was Judith Wyder (Hoka/Red Bull, Switzerland) who kept up the white-knuckled suspense right to the end. “She was very powerful on the climbs, but I’d kept some in reserve to catch up in the 3rdloop’s downhill and try to close up the gap on the shorter last loop. She was in my sights in the last stretch, but I made a slight mistake on a bend which cost me a few seconds, a few seconds too many. I was so close, but she was stronger. I’m happy I was able to share this race with all these athletes!” Sophia Laukli (Salomon, USA) rounds off the podium. “I had weird sensations today. The race didn’t set off too fast and I was feeling good, but when the pace picked up I realised I couldn’t keep up. I held on as best I could hoping that Madalina would do the job in front to keep the lead. At one point I even thought I was going to drop out, but I managed to hold on and keep my third position.”

Sophia Laukli wins the Golden Trail World Series 2023!

A third place means the title! Although they have the same number of points, Sophia Laukli holds one victory more than Judith Wyder and therefore the American wins the Golden Trail World Series 2023! “I’m so proud of my season, even if it was really tough today in the final. I told myself I didn’t have the right to drop out and lose everything and, in the end, I won the GTWS! Of course, I will be back next year to defend this title!” Judith Wyder finishes 2ndon equal points and, thanks to her victory in this final, Madalina Florea rounds off the podium.

Eef Van Dongen wins the GTNS Grand Final!

She was in fourth position for a long time before running out of steam in the latter part of the race. By finishing 10th in the big race in 2h33, and with a time of 44’12” in the prologue, Eef Van Dongen (GTNS Nordics) wins the GTNS Grand Final with a time of 3h17. She beats Rosa Lara (GTNS ESP/POR) by 1’42”. Ida Amelie Robsahm (GTNS Nordics) completes the podium. Therefore, these women each receive a Golden Ticket for the 2024 season to enjoy the opportunity to experience the Golden Trail World Series races alongside the Elite athletes.
